The creative textile outreach program, “Fiber Celebrations of Joy” designed and funded by the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery exposes students to the textile medium and to noted artist Robert Hillestad. Written and tested by art educator, Jane Marie, this curriculum for students is aligned with state and national K-12 classroom standards.
This curriculum originally coincided with the 2008 exhibit titled “Celebration Threads: New Twists by Robert Hillestad.” Students from Aurora High School (in Aurora, Nebraska) connected textile themes, materials, and techniques into the specialized art areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, and fiber art. The resulting art works were displayed at the University of Nebraska as well as Aurora High School.
The curriculum for this outreach program is now available free of charge for use by educators. Download the PDF here.
